For computer repair, I charge $60 per hour. Period. No song and dance, no subversion. I'm very up front.
I haven't raised my rates in more than a year, despite increasing gas prices. You have enough to worry about being gouged by your computer guy. I still serve clients I had at age 14 and have a tendancy to get adopted by families.
Here are the specifics (noone else will outline these up front):
- Please have a list of things ready for me to fix. Write down the exact wording of all errors you encounter. Paraphrasing errors may not help me fix the problem. Also what you were doing and what programs you had open at the time will be helpful in fixing the problem.
- The minimum charge is for one hour, after that, I bill in half-hour increments.
- I am rarely interested in bartering. I include this only because I've been asked dozens of times. It doesn't hurt to make an offer, but be prepared to pay cash/check upon my completion of the work. I do not bill or wait until payday. I don't want to sound unfeeling, but I have a family to feed as well. I must be paid upon completion of my services, per day. If I am going to work at your home/business for several days, I'll esitmate my time and ask for a check at the outset. I always refund overages, I have been burned too many times to assume everyone is going to pay when the time comes, especially after 2 weeks of work. I'm sure you understand.
